Method and Story

 India Raye

I bring more than eight years of teaching experience across a wide range of fields and age groups. My background includes serving as adjunct faculty for three semesters at BYU Provo while pursuing my Master's where I taught Creative Writing, as well as working as a Editor and Ballroom Dance/Yoga Instructor at BYU-Idaho during the final year of my bachelor’s degree. It was in that role that I first discovered the power of kinetic learning, particularly for students with attention disorders such as ADHD and ADD.

Throughout my Master’s degree and MFA in Creative Writing, I continued teaching as a freelance tutor for various companies, refining my ability to meet learners where they are. Over the years I have become familiar with several pedagogical approaches, yet I have found the greatest success in a blended method that draws from the Charlotte Mason tradition—emphasizing copywork and oral narration—and pairs it with kinetic applications of grammar principles. This combination allows students to internalize language skills through movement, repetition, and storytelling, creating a more engaging and lasting learning experience.

I am qualified and experienced in teaching: learning to read/letters, reading, composition, cursive penmanship, grammar, Latin, Greek, British and American literature, Shakespeare, Great Books and writers of the world, Language Arts ACT Prep, and Creative Writing.

FAQ

My child has dyslexia. Can you help?

Great—bring them in! My teaching style has worked very well with former students who have dyslexia. I myself have dysgraphia, a rare form of dyslexia that primarily affects numbers, so I understand firsthand how frustrating deep learning can feel when these extra difficulties are present. We’ll work together to find a pace that supports your child’s success.

My child has ADHD. Will this approach work?

This is exactly why I don’t rely on the Charlotte Mason Method alone. I am a kinetic learner myself, and both of my parents as well as several of my six younger siblings have severe attention disorders. Let’s get on a call and talk through your child’s specific needs—we’ll come up with a personalized plan together.

I can't decide. I want my child to learn it all!

Wonderful—there’s no need to choose just one. I typically recommend focusing on one core subject for the year and adding a second subject that can be rotated monthly as desired.

Lessons are so expensive!

Fear not homeschool moms and dads! As the owner of my own LLC and small publishing press, I am a Utah Fits All Vendor and as such my classes are reimbursable through the state of Utah and probably through your state as well. If you are currently out of state please contact me and I will work with your family budget as much as I am able.
